Tutorial: AKVIS Enhancer

Workspace of the Program

On a Windows computer you can launch AKVIS Enhancer in the following way:

  • From Main menu: press the button Start and select AKVIS – Enhancer in the pop-up menu All Programs.
  • Using the program's shortcut on the Desktop: put the cursor on the icon of AKVIS Enhancer and double-click it with the left button of the mouse.

On a Macintosh computer open the Applications folder on the side bar of Finder, select AKVIS Enhancer Application and double-click on it.

The workspace of AKVIS Enhancer looks like this:

Open an image

Most of the AKVIS Enhancer workspace is taken by the Image window with two tabs: Before and After. In the Before tab the original image is shown, while in the After tab you can see the processed image. It is possible to switch between the tabs using the Tab-key. You can also compare the original and the resulting images by just left-clicking on any point of the image.

In the upper part of the window you can see the Control panel with the progress bar, which shows the approximate processing time remaining, and the following controls:

  • The button opens one image for processing (Enhancer, Focus, Smart Correction modes).
  • The button opens a series of shots for processing (HDR mode).
  • The button saves the result to a file.
  • The button prints the image.
  • The button (only in the Focus mode) turns on/off the drawn strokes.

  • The button (only in the Focus mode) cancels the last operation. It is possible to cancel several operations in a row.

The hotkey for the command is Ctrl+Z (+Z on Macintosh).

  • The button (only in the Focus mode) returns the last cancelled operation. It is possible to return several operations in a row.

The hotkey for the command is Ctrl+Y (+Y on Macintosh).

  • The button (in the Focus mode and Smart Correction mode) starts image processing of the whole image.
  • The button calls information about the program and opens the registration window.
  • The button opens Help files.
  • The button selects the interface language.
  • The button closes the program.

If several images are opened, their thumbnails are shown under the Image Window. The Before tab of the Image Window displays the image, which is now selected (highlighted in blue). To display a different image, left-click on its thumbnail under the Image Window.

Open bracketing images

The check-box near the thumbnail indicates if the image will be used when generating the HDR-image. Deactivate the check-box near the image with a left-click, if you do not want to use it in creation of the HDR-image

Navigate and scale the image using the Navigation window. In the Navigation window you can see the reduced copy of the image. The red frame shows the part of the image that is now visible in the Image Window.

Navigator

You can drag the frame to make other parts of the image visible. To move the frame, bring the cursor inside the frame, press the left mouse button and, keeping it pressed, move the frame in the Navigation window.

You can also scroll the image in the Image Window by pressing the spacebar on the keyboard and drag the image with the left mouse button.

Use the slider or the buttons and , to scale the image in the Image Window. When you click on the button or move the slider to the right, the image scale increases. When you click on the button or move the slider to the left, the image scale reduces.

You can also change the image scale by entering a new coefficient into the scale field and pressing Enter (Return on Macintosh).

You can use hot-keys as well to change the image scale: + and Ctrl++ (++ on Macintosh) to increase the image scale - and Ctrl+- (+- on Macintosh) to reduce the scale.

Under the Navigation window you can see the drop-down list used to select the mode of working (by default Enhancer, Focus, Smart Correction are in the list; HDR appears only if two or more images are loaded) and below two tabs where the image processing parameters are adjusted (Options for the chosen mode and Post Processing).

In the Presets field you can save favourite settings as a preset to use them in the future. When you launch the plugin, it uses the settings of the last used preset.

Also, under the Settings panel you can see hints: a brief description of AKVIS Enhancer (the first time you launch it) or the description of the active parameter.
