Tutorial: AKVIS Coloriage

Colorizing a portrait

  • Step 1. Open a photo of a gentleman in a top hat.

  • Step 2. Call the AKVIS Coloriage plug-in. For this purpose in Adobe Photoshop select the menu item Filter – AKVIS – Coloriage; in Corel PHOTO-PAINT - select the menu item Effects – AKVIS – Coloriage.
  • Step 3. Set the color for every image detail.

Let's start with the easiest object – select the white color for the white shirt with the Pencil tool and draw with the Pencil within the shirt, following the shape of its boundaries.

For the coat and the top hat we select dark blue from the Color Palette and draw an outline within the coat and the hat. Outline the ribbon on the hat with a bright-blue color in the same manner.

For the collar of the frockcoat we select brown and draw an outline within the collar.

For the background we select green from the palette.

When setting colors for the face we use several colors: the main color we apply to the front, cheek-bones and neck, a lighter color is used for the cheeks and the chin, while around the eyes we use a darker color.

Let's choose and set the color for the hair and for the eyebrows.

The color of the lips we take from the Color library.

Select a color for the eyes – grey-green for the iris and white for the white around the iris.

Apply strokes to set a color for every object
  • Step 4. Press the button Colorize, and you will see the colorized portrait in the After tab.
