Tutorial: AKVIS OilPaint

Night City: Oil and Pencil

Oil is an expressive material but it does not always convey smallest details. To show items on an oil painting, you can combine an image processed with AKVIS OilPaint with a drawing created in AKVIS Sketch. As a result, you will obtain a harmonious combination of the oil broad brush strokes and thin pencil lines.

  • Step 1. Open the image in a graphic editor, for example, in Photoshop. This photo of night London contains a number of small details.

The plugin's window opens with the loaded image. Using the tool draw the guiding lines along which oil strokes will be applied.

Process the image with one of the standard presets or adjust the parameters to your liking, and then click on , to apply the result and return to the image editor.

The oil painting looks very good, but small details are missing: the clock on the tower looks like a yellow circle, and the buildings lost some architectural elements.

  • Step 5. Change the blend mode of the layer processed in AKVIS Sketch to Multiply and reduce its opacity to 80%.

After adding the pencil strokes the contours in the image become clearer, you can even see time on the clock!
