Smudge

The Smudge tool mixes colors by displacing pixels, like a finger passing through wet paint.

To change this tool's parameters go to the Settings Panel. To change the settings for a parameter, enter a numerical value in the parameter's field and press Enter or adjust the slider.

  • Diameter (1-500). Width of the Smudge Tool.
  • Hardness (0-100). The degree to which the tool smears. At higher values of this parameter, the more streaks are smeared the sharper the line's edges are; with a decrease in hardness the transition between the line's edges and the background is smoother.

  • Strength (1-100). The lengthiness of a stroke's colors. The higher the value of this parameter, the more color is smeared. When strength = 100% the color of the first element is used across the entire line.

    Low Strength High Strength

  • Check-box Use Color. Clicking on the check-box activates a mode where primary colors are applied at the beginning of each stroke. In this mode, the Strength parameter determines the intensity of the color.

The main color can be selected in the Color Palette. To select a color move the cursor to the spectral strip (the cursor will take the form of a pipette) and click on the desired color, or choose a color from the standard color dialogue Select Color. In some cases it is more convenient to change colors manually, by adjusting the sliders.

To spread color along a straight line, first select a starting point by clicking the left mouse button and while holding Shift, move the cursor to the desired endpoint and release Shift. If Shift is not released, then new lines will be drawn to each point where the mouse is clicked.
