Rays is an element in a form of a number of rays coming out of a single center - a radial star. You can set the number of rays, their width, and edge softness; the size of the element, its opacity, and color.

Preview of the element Rays

The Color of the Rays is set on a gradient line that has two white sliders initially. The left slider represents the color in the center of the element, the right slider - the edge color, with soft transitions between them.

To change a slider color you should double-click on it with the left mouse button and choose a color from the Standard color selection dialog box. You can add an infinite number of intermediate sliders and set a color to each of them.

Color selection

The Size parameter sets the size of the Rays element as a percent of the minimal image size (width and height).
Size = 50% Size = 100%
Size = 50% Size = 100%

Visible size of the element depends on the softness of the edges (Softness parameter). Softer edges fade quicker, therefore the higher is the Softness parameter value, the smaller is the visible size of the element.

The Softness parameter regulates the softness of the element's edges. The higher is the Softness value, the softer are the edges. A Rays element with Softness set to zero has sharp edges.
Softness = 5% Softness = 100%
Softness = 5% Softness = 100%

The Opacity parameter sets the opacity level of the light effect. The default value of the parameter is 100% that corresponds to a solid Rays element. The less is the parameter value the more transparent is the element. With Opacity =0% the element is completely transparent.
Opacity = 40% Opacity = 100%
Opacity = 40% Opacity = 100%

The Rays parameter sets the number of rays in the element.
Rays = 5 Rays = 10
Rays = 5 Rays = 10

The element can have a maximum of 50 rays. If this is not enough you can use several Ray elements with the maximum number of rays and overlap them at a rotation angle of several degrees. To turn an element, use the Rotate modifier.

Inner Rays. Every ray of the element can also consist of rays; these are inner rays. The number of inner rays is set with this parameter. Every outer ray can have up to 30 inner rays. Please note that a large number of inner rays can lead to a moire effect.
Inner Rays = 1 Inner Rays = 3
Inner Rays = 1 Inner Rays = 3

The Width parameter sets the rays width.
Width = 20 Width = 50
Width = 20 Width = 50
