August 23, 2011 — AKVIS announces the release of AKVIS Magnifier v.5.0 for Windows and Macintosh. Version 5.0 offers support for GPU acceleration, batch processing, support for RAW files, and other important improvements.
AKVIS Magnifier makes it easy for anyone to produce professional-looking enlargements out of digital images. The product is available as a standalone program as well as a plugin for Photoshop, in versions for Windows and Macintosh.
AKVIS Magnifier lets you resize images without loss in quality.
If you attempt to blow up a picture (increase its resolution) using the standard Resize command of a photo editor, you will notice that the resulting photo is blurred and pixelated. This is because a small photo does not contain enough information to create a larger version with good definition. AKVIS Magnifier can cope with this problem and deliver good results.
Resizing pictures with AKVIS Magnifier yields a much higher quality than simple bicubic interpolation. Depending on the task at hand, AKVIS Magnifier can be fine-tuned to produce images that look exactly as required for a given purpose. The software allows you to enlarge an image to a super-high resolution of up to 30000x30000 pixels, making a 100x100 inch (2.5x2.5 meter) poster easily printable at a typographic quality of 300dpi.
Whether creating poster-size images, adding resolution for printing an enlargement, or reducing image size, AKVIS Magnifier will make your prints look sharper and better defined!
The software requires no complicated techniques or special knowledge to achieve good results and can be used even by an amateur photographer.
The program offers to change the image size as well as the image resolution. The image processing parameters are grouped in two sections: Downsize and Upsize. The parameters become active accordingly the desired image size.
The program tips help you to achieve the best result. Hovering your mouse over a parameter makes the application display a hint about this setting.
In Version 5.0 the software offers a variety of updates, new features and interface improvements.
The program now supports GPU (graphical processing unit) acceleration that significantly speeds up image processing! The new GPU option in the program's Preferences is only active if a computer has an appropriate video card. The image processing speed depends directly on a video card.
The new version adds the Remove Artifacts parameter to the Upsize group. It aids in removing defects that appear when resizing images.
The new version offers two interface modes: Express and Advanced. In Express mode, only the necessary parameters are shown, so you will not get lost in the features but will still receive a good result. Switching to Advanced mode opens all parameters available in the program.
Also, version 5.0 adds the possibility to adjust Image View Modes (various options for displaying the original and processed images, "before" and "after" states). Now you can see and compare the original and processed versions of an image fragment on one screen.
In previous versions, the batch processing option was available only for the plugin (as a Photoshop automation feature). Version 5.0 of Magnifier offers the full support for Batch Processing in both editions. Users of the standalone application can now enjoy the feature of automatic image resizing. Just apply the program with the same settings to a folder full of photos!
The program now opens RAW files which contain raw sensor data of digital cameras. Support for these files gives you even more flexibility in getting a result. Magnifier works with RAW photo formats from the most popular digital cameras (CRW, NEF, ORF, PEF etc).
AKVIS Magnifier runs on Windows 7/Vista/XP and Mac OS X 10.4-10.7, both 32 bit and 64 bit.
For a free trial, AKVIS offers 10 days of fully functional use.
